deviantART's 11th BirthdAy: Let's Celebrate!

August 7th, 2011 marks deviantART's 11th birthdAy, but in true devious style, we're taking a whole week to celebrate! Our original plans for Deviants Appreciation Day were so huge that there was no possible way to express our love for the community in a mere 24 hours. Instead, we've created Deviants Appreciation Week, and what better time to host a week's worth of community-oriented events than in the days leading up to our birthdAy?
Each day this week, we have something special organized for you to participate in! Check out the schedule of events below to come party with us!

Celebrate DeviantArt's 15th Birthday!
As DeviantArt enters its 15th year on the Internet, we want to take a moment before blowing out our candles to thank the community for allowing us the honor of hosting the site that you call your home for art. After all, it's the community's 15th birthday, too, and in the past few months, we've been making it our top priority to share with you our plans for the future, celebrate the successes of our past, and look to you for guidance on how best we can serve each of you while entering this new phase of DeviantArt's existence.

It's back! With the goal of bringing a little cheer to patients in the hospital during the holiday season, the deviantART Holiday Card Project connects deviants from around the world and applies their tremendous artistic abilities in designing and creating uplifting holiday cards.
In past years, the Project has received more than 5,000 cards sent in by more than 1,000 deviants from 50 different countries/political regions. Cards were then divvied up and distributed in-person by deviantART members to local Los Angeles, CA hospitals, with additional cards given to various hospitals in the U.S. and abroad for hospital staff members to hand out

Our Ongoing Battle Against Malicious Ads
Toward the end of April, deviantART released a community-wide news article that outlined and reaffirmed our stance against advertisements that auto-play audio, contain pop-ups or redirects, and promote virus or malware activity. Three months later, we'd like to provide an update on our efforts to block malicious advertising from running on the site.
We're taking these concerns seriously
DeviantART takes all concerns on this topic very seriously and immediately implemented a number of changes to reduce the chance those type of ads would get served by our ad partners. These initial steps w

Goblins vs. Gnomes Challenge Winners
In the Goblins vs. Gnomes Challenge, we asked you to create your own version of an inventive Gnome or fearless Goblin from Hearthstone. We sent 25 of your Goblin and Gnomish engineers, tinkerers, and mechanics to the Creative team at Blizzard, who took the time to carefully sift through each entry. The team was impressed by every entry, from the tea-fueled robots to teleporting birds. After deliberating, the Blizzard team chose three winners to rule the field of battle with their crazy and unique inventions. Congratulations, winners, and thank you to everyone who participated!

Goblins vs. Gnomes Challenge
Create Your Own Mischievous Goblin or Gnome!
The battle has been declared. Side with either the cunning and dangerous Goblins or the clever and wacky Gnomes. Create your own Goblin or Gnome inspired by Hearthstone's new expansion pack, Goblins vs Gnomes, and include the invention they would use to confuse, confound, or explode their opponents.
It's up to you: pick as your inspiration the measured ingenuity of the Gnomes or the trademarked fearlessness of Goblins. Make a new invention or reinterpret an old one.

The longer you stay on deviantART and the more people you get to know, the more the wish to meet those people will grow.
Especially when people live close to you or when you are living in an area that is well populated it can be arranged easily to get to know some fellow deviants in real life as well. When it comes to meet deviants who live in a different country, maybe even a different continent it will be more of a challenge. But still not impossible.
If you just meet with a few other deviants it usually doesn't require much planning. You pick a date, a time and a place. If you are all from the same area, it won't req
